Dear Cambia Palliative Care Center of Excellence Community,

It feels like spring has finally arrived in Seattle.  The weather is a bit warmer, the days are a bit longer, and the trees and flowers are starting to bud and bloom.  I’ve always appreciated how spring marks a fresh start – often not in a dramatic way, but slow and steady with small signs of growth and change that add up over time.

Here at the Center, we are continuing to plan the J. Randall Curtis Palliative Care Conference this November.  Since we announced the conference in our last newsletter, we’ve lined up two outstanding keynote speakers – Dr. Maisha Robinson, a neuropalliative care specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, and Dr. Ashlee Loughan, a neuropsychologist at Virginia Commonwealth University and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.  In this issue of the newsletter, you’ll read more about the planned format of the conference and have an opportunity to submit proposals for content.  While the conference will highlight neuropalliative care, we plan to have plenty of general palliative care programming as well and encourage all healthcare professionals and community members to participate.

We are also excited to announce that nominations are now open for the 2nd annual CPCCE Excellence in Palliative Care Education Awards!  Please consider nominating your colleagues as this is a terrific way to recognize outstanding teaching related to serious illness care, by fellows, palliative care specialists, and the many generalist clinicians who provide and teach excellent primary palliative care across the WWAMI region.  Last year we were able to recognize seven outstanding educators from across the region.
